Funded through the Cardiff Commitment Programme, Cyber Innovation Hub is working to deliver cyber training to teachers. This course aims to empower teachers with the skills and knowledge they need to help protect local schools from cyber attacks and confidently deliver cyber themed lessons throughout their curriculum offering.
The course provides teachers with the necessary skills and knowledge to enhance their cyber hygiene and awareness. Content includes the current threat landscape, establishing cyber hygiene practices, recognising social engineering tactics, strong authentication practices, securing digital assets, staying safe online, and protecting devices.
Education is among the sectors that experience the most cyber attacks, including healthcare, finance, and retail. According to Check Point’s Mid-Year Report for 2022, the education sector had 44% more cyber attacks in 2022 than in 2021.
This demonstrates the importance of teachers gaining a solid foundation in cyber hygiene practices and the ability to protect themselves, their pupils and their institutions from cyber threats. As well as the need to provide teachers with the knowledge to drive cyber security into the activities they run in schools to develop a future generation who are knowledgeable and excited about the potential for secure digital systems.
