A spotlight on…ITSUS Consulting

Building Cybersecurity Excellence in Wales

ITSUS Consulting is a Cardiff Capital Region-based SME with a strong Welsh workforce, dedicated to delivering ICT professional services to defence and public sector clients.

Despite its size, ITSUS has played a pivotal role in major UK defence programmes, partnering with industry giants like Airbus and Aquila ATMS. Their deep ties to Welsh academia reflect their commitment to nurturing local talent, recruiting from South Wales universities, sponsoring PhD students, and supporting local schools through the CyberFirst programme. This synergy with academic institutions align with the company’s attitude to trial and experimentation and underpins a wider set of values based in the application of novel technology to solve customer challenges and help provide collaborative research for their customer base.

ITSUS is committed to developing its people and growing talent within Wales. Welsh Government support for innovation and skills development has enabled ITSUS to enhance its technology solutions and make a significant impact on the UK defence ecosystem. This in turn helps ITSUS showcase the important part Wales plays in the cyber security ecosystem, through wider engagement with UK based organisations such as UKC3 (the UK Cyber Cluster Collaboration) and the UK Cyber Security Council.

At ITSUS Consulting, security is very much at the core of their delivery and they’re a validated cyber security supplier to HMG and are certified to CE Plus & ISO 27001. With a growing multi-disciplinary team, they continue to expand and evolve their broad capabilities in line with market demand and technological developments. This adaptability has garnered them a firm reputation within defence and government, allowing them to expand their scope, from networks and infrastructure as their core area of expertise, to the evolving fields of cybersecurity and data science. ITSUS work with recognised global leaders in a broad range of technology areas, allowing ITSUS access to cutting-edge technologies and provide unrivalled insights in the fields of IP communications networks, test & evaluation, and cybersecurity.

Providing professional services to customers and partners operating in the UK defence and public sector, they offer the full project lifecycle set of services that few consultancies can directly provide. Their goal of developing long-term relationships, coupled with their range of ICT services, affords them the opportunity to support customers from creation of investment cases through to successful delivery of business-critical systems and services. For Welsh public sector, ITSUS embodies a shared interest; they have roots and stakes in Wales, and a team passionate about improving the communities they live in.

A Day in the Life: Eve North, Cyber Security Product Vendor Specialist

Meet Eve North, a dedicated Cyber Security Product Vendor Specialist at ITSUS Consulting. Eve plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between ITSUS and its channel vendors, ensuring the seamless integration of cutting-edge technologies into customer solutions. Eve shares a typical day in the life of a Cyber Security Product Vendor Specialist…

My Morning Routine

My day starts the night before, with a to-do list ready so I can hit the ground running. Mornings are spent checking in on quotes—those I’ve submitted to distributors or sent to customers. I then check emails for new requests or updates from colleagues, vendors, and distributors. I enjoy assembling deals, as it gives me insight into customer network architecture and how technologies interconnect to ensure security and operational efficiency.

Building Strong Relationships

A significant part of my role involves developing strong relationships with our channel vendors. This often means travelling to London to meet with account teams, reviewing active quotes and exploring ways to enhance our professional services offerings. These meetings also provide opportunities to discuss knowledge transfer and learning opportunities for our team and customers, whether through vendor learning portals or technology sessions at our Cardiff office.

Staying Updated

If time permits, I attend webinars from our vendors to stay updated on the latest products, services, and sales strategies. This helps me understand how vendors are addressing evolving customer needs and emerging cyber threats. Throughout the day, I stay connected with the company via Viva Engage,  this means I can share new product information with our engineers, and they can support on equipment and software requests by advising on changes or additional requirements from the customers’ engineering teams. This communication ensures agility in our workflow and informs the training and development needs of our team.

 Planning Ahead

I wind down my day by planning tomorrow’s tasks, creating a to-do list to maintain focus for the morning. This preparation is crucial for maintaining productivity and ensuring I can provide the best support to our customers and team.

Future Growth Plans

ITSUS is committed to remaining in the Cardiff Capital Region, which offers a thriving cyber ecosystem, a wealth of talent, and numerous innovative organisations leading the way in cybersecurity.

Supporting Local Innovation

Their long-standing relationships with South Wales universities will continue to support local innovation through knowledge transfer partnerships and PhD sponsorships in key areas of cyber security. Research interests include digital forensics, 5G, visualization, augmented and virtual reality, machine learning, encrypted internet traffic analysis, and the Internet of Things.

Promoting Diversity and Inclusion

ITSUS’s long-term goals include improving diversity and inclusion within the industry. They collaborate with initiatives like CyberFirst Wales and CyBOK to educate and encourage the next generation of cybersecurity experts. This passion extends to their team, encouraging participation in activities that support diversity in STEM, such as the Women in Cyber Wales group and the Women Empowering Defence network.
